Designed by Aflalo & Gasperini Arquitetos, the Trump Towers is an innovative project that will contribute to the development of the port area of Rio de Janeiro, the future home of the 2016 Olympic Games. Defined as five rather slender towers, with broad front to Francisco Bicalho Avenue, they are similar, equal in height and in geometrically tessellated form. This development is carefully arranged creating a sinuous line suggested by gardens occurring at different heights in each tower. This language gives a sense of order that connects with the landscape and stimulate diversity. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The revitalization of this region, called Porto Maravilha – created and developed by the City council of Rio de Janeiro, will occur in an area of more than five million square meters – This new region will feature new public transport system, new roadside bicycle tracks, and a complete change on the infrastructure for city dwellers. This revival, which has already been partially implemented, is receiving a financial contribution of more than R$ 10 billion (Reais).
The project is deployed on a site of 600 meters wide by 50 meters deep. Respecting all the territorial authority regulations and requirements, the Trump Towers has a variety of programmed spaces pre-defined in each floors. Large areas with shops, restaurants, well being fitness gyms and a variety of different services will take place, as well as the commercial business sector of the tower
The project will have the goal of efficiency in relation to the various sustainable aspects. It will have rain water capturing system that helps use and treatment of wastewater. A major challenge will be to control and optimize the impact of the rising and setting sun on the facades of greater length. For this, a vision of louvers has been implemented – a shading element, which adds to the high performance glazing to optimize natural light. The design of this louver system is suggested by the waves of Copacabana boardwalk, which replace the curved lines by straight lines, forming a set of zigzag lines that feature as an articulated tessellated pattern.
