The name itself wasn't a big deal if we confident enough about our own culture. A typical Chinese name won't be necessary for buildings without culture backgrounds, especially for skyscrapers designated for business purposes at CBD. Imagining World Financial Center in Shanghai or IFC in Guangzhou changed its name to some random traditional Chinese words. It would be so weird as it is no longer easy for us to recognize the main function of those buildings at the very first moment. Manhattan is not a proper name obviously, all we have to do is keep the original purpose of naming a building : a quick description of the building itself. |
