EEP Aims to Set New Infrastructure Standard with $445 Million Headquarters Project

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is investing $445 million in constructing a state-of-the-art headquarters building that focuses on sustainability and energy efficiency. The project aims to establish a new standard for infrastructure development in the region.

According to Behailu Tadele, the project manager overseeing the construction, the building's design will meet the gold standard requirements of the Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system, governed by the American Green Building Council.

"The design will prioritize energy-efficient features and minimize the building's impact on the environment and occupant well-being. Incorporating green spaces that seamlessly blend with the natural surroundings is also a key aspect of the design," Behailu said.

The headquarters building will cover an extensive area of 20,792 square meters and will feature a remarkable 62-story skyscraper, becoming an iconic landmark in Addis Ababa.

Excavation work for soil research is already underway, with 25 out of 28 designated wells completed. The remaining three wells are expected to be finished within a week.

"A comprehensive topography survey has been conducted to ensure seamless integration with the surrounding landscape," Behailu said.
