Inspired by the scroll painting "Along the River During Qingming Festival,” much of the design for this project is pulled from established Chinese culture. From this scroll a modern application to design has been developed with a new area centered around a major gateway – the Integrated transportation hub.
An important aspect of the design approach is focused on the careful planning of buildings and streets in relation to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. By creating a hierarchy to streets and then blocks with appropriate buildings along the streets, an area has been created that is well organized for vehicular circulation yet is also pedestrian friendly. This new design approach follows the current trends of new town planning in China.
Landscape is another key of the design. The holistically designed civic landscape is meant to embrace the new High speed transportation Hub, which allows the site to be thought of as a gateway, one that welcomes new and returning people to the area. It acts as a welcome place and gives the area a sense of arrival.
Small parks within the financial zones create special communal spaces that engage both the office worker and transit user. A whimsical, picturesque landscape juxtaposes the civic landscape with the surrounding natural area.
